The Church–Turing thesis is a mathematical statement of this versatility: any computer with a certain minimum capability is, in principle, capable of performing the same tasks that any other computer can perform. Therefore, computers with capability and complexity ranging from that of a personal digital assistant to a supercomputer are all able to perform the same computational tasks given enough time and storage capacity..,,,

I think it's great that Macs enjoy "virus protections" that the PC doesn't. But if you think you're 'safe' because you're trusting the computer, consider the fact that the vast majority of PC users aren't on Macs, so hackers don't bother to write viruses for them. Knowing that, you still must understand that viruses get triggered not because the computer is a PC but because the user isn't paying attention.

Don't blame PCs, blame users. As long as users continue to allow their email programs to automatically launch files, idiocy like the Sobig virus will continue. This was the fifth version of this virus and they keep getting nastier than their predecessors..

How Computer Affects Children Lives

As we all know that computer is one of the best inventions of science from which every subject of study has revolutionized. Nowadays everything depends on computer, from grocery stores to multinationals. Computer is necessary everywhere because computer offers so many facilities for e.g. computerized system in factories have reduced the labor charges. Computers are essential in all fields and are also used for the sake of entertainment.

We are using computers in our home, in our daily life to get facilities. Through computers, we can enjoy internet surfing, we can play games, listen songs, etc. but on the other side if computer is misused, it can result in demerits. Children especially who aren’t using the computers in the right manner are at the most risk. In the following discussion, we will discuss how computer is harmful and affecting our children lives.

THE EFFECT OF GAMES ON YOUNG

In a survey, it has been inferred that highly-animated and high graphics game of terrorism and war like counter-strike, Crysis, Red-Alert2 are harmful for young children and are highly affecting their brains, but if children play educational games it will help them to increase their knowledge and also help them in their academics. The effects of playing games are:

• It clearly shows that playing and observing violent games affects young children and it changes their mind and increases the level of aggressive behavior.

• Playing games on computer make children less sociable and decreases their academic ability.

• Playing educational and calm games affects the young children brain in a positive manner; games like WACKY WORD SEARCH, HANGAROO, etc. help them to increase their knowledge. These games also make them sharp and increase their IQ level.

HOW INTERNET AFFECTS CHILDREN:

It is a debatable topic but we will discuss it shortly. Nowadays internet, web browsing, chatting, and surveys are very famous in adolescents. The teenagers are getting information and knowledge is on finger tips of young children, but the excessive use of computers is also harmful and dangerous for young children.

It is an admitted fact that those children who spend more time on computer are feeling lonely because they have no time to spend with their parents. This increases their daily stress because if they are not talking with their parents it means they are not sharing their problems, that’s why they are facing trouble

Young children daily play computer games more or less 20 minutes but in these 20 minutes they sit in front of the computer screen which is harmful for children eyes. It is a natural process that a children eye blinks about 4,000 times in 20 minutes but when they are playing computer they blink there eyes only 20 times in 20 minutes. This causes redness in eyes and the harmful rays of the CRT monitor causes the weakening of retina which can further lead to short-sightedness and far-sightedness.

Now the children of new era are very addicted to computer and its excessive use is harming their health and also making them obese. They are not playing sports like cricket, football; whatever they want to play they play on computer which is totally wrong. Parents should advise there children not to do as this it is harmful for their own selves. Computer is for mankind and not to harm our selves so parents should maintain the schedule of children playing computer games time. This will help them to reduce harms on their health. It’s also affecting their standard of education so in this way excessive usage of computers is destroying a whole new generation. “Excess of everything is bad”.

The first computers were people! That is, electronic computers (and the earlier mechanical computers) were given this name because they performed the work that had previously been assigned to people. "Computer" was originally a job title: it was used to describe those human beings (predominantly women) whose job it was to perform the repetitive calculations required to compute such things as navigational tables, tide charts, and planetary positions for astronomical almanacs. Imagine you had a job where hour after hour, day after day, you were to do nothing but compute multiplications. Boredom would quickly set in, leading to carelessness, leading to mistakes. And even on your best days you wouldn't be producing answers very fast. Therefore, inventors have been searching for hundreds of years for a way to mechanize (that is, find a mechanism that can perform) this task.

The abacus was an early aid for mathematical computations. Its only value is that it aids the memory of the human performing the calculation. A skilled abacus operator can work on addition and subtraction problems at the speed of a person equipped with a hand calculator (multiplication and division are slower). The abacus is often wrongly attributed to China. In fact, the oldest surviving abacus was used in 300 B.C. by the Babylonians. The abacus is still in use today, principally in the far east. A modern abacus consists of rings that slide over rods, but the older one pictured below dates from the time when pebbles were used for counting (the word "calculus" comes from the Latin word for pebble).

In 1617 an eccentric (some say mad) Scotsman named John Napier invented logarithms, which are a technology that allows multiplication to be performed via addition. The magic ingredient is the logarithm of each operand, which was originally obtained from a printed table. But Napier also invented an alternative to tables, where the logarithm values were carved on ivory sticks which are now called Napier's Bones.

Napier's invention led directly to the slide rule, first built in England in 1632 and still in use in the 1960's by the NASA engineers of the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo programs which landed men on the moon.

Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519) made drawings of gear-driven calculating machines but apparently never built any.

The first gear-driven calculating machine to actually be built was probably the calculating clock, so named by its inventor, the German professor Wilhelm Schickard in 1623. This device got little publicity because Schickard died soon afterward in the bubonic plague.

In 1642 Blaise Pascal, at age 19, invented the Pascaline as an aid for his father who was a tax collector. Pascal built 50 of this gear-driven one-function calculator (it could only add) but couldn't sell many because of their exorbitant cost and because they really weren't that accurate (at that time it was not possible to fabricate gears with the required precision). Up until the present age when car dashboards went digital, the odometer portion of a car's speedometer used the very same mechanism as the Pascaline to increment the next wheel after each full revolution of the prior wheel. Pascal was a child prodigy. At the age of 12, he was discovered doing his version of Euclid's thirty-second proposition on the kitchen floor. Pascal went on to invent probability theory, the hydraulic press, and the syringe. Shown below is an 8 digit version of the Pascaline, and two views of a 6 digit version:
